What will you Give Up to Give Back?

Looking for a new challenge? Planning to lead a healthier lifestyle? Just want to do something for charity?
If so, Alex TLC’s Give Up to Give Back campaign could be just the thing for you!
What will you Give Up?

The first step is to choose what you are going to give up and how long you are going to give up for.
This challenge is open all year round so you can start whenever it suits you, and the duration is up to you too.
Have a think about what the hardest habit or treat to give up. Some ideas include:
Alcohol – this is becoming more and more popular in January, October and December
Biting your nails – Did you know that when biting your nails, you are also biting on bacteria, germs, yeast, etc too?
Cake – Whatever your favourite cake, how long do you think you could go without it?
Chocolate – The toughest challenge for any chocoholics out there
Coffee Shop Coffee – Can you resist the smell of fresh coffee each time you walk past your favourite coffee shop?
Smoking – A good idea any time of the year but this could tie in with Stoptober in October
Social Media – If you are an aimless scroller, think of how much additional time you’d have in a day
Swearing – If you often turn the air blue, perhaps this is the challenge for you
Sweets – Your teeth will thank you if you take on this challenge
Something else entirely? We can’t wait to hear your plans.
What will you Give Back?

If you choose to give up something that costs money, you could donate what you save to Alex TLC instead.
Or perhaps you could put half away for a rainy day and donate half to us; win win for everyone!
Have you stretched your will-power to it’s limit? Make sure you tell everyone you know and ask them to sponsor you. Their support will help you to reach your target and keep you motivated too.
You are only human and shouldn’t put too much pressure on yourself. Don’t beat yourself up if you slip up, you could always make a small donation to Alex TLC and start again the next day.

What’s in it for you?

As well as the feel good factor for joining a movement to help beat the isolation and feeling of hopelessness which often comes for those diagnosed with a leukodystrophy, there could well be health benefits linked to your challenge too!
Everyone who takes part and raises funds for us will receive a thank you letter and certificate from us too.
Keeping yourself safe
We advise anyone who is trying to give up something they are dependent on to speak with their GP before committing to this fundraising idea.
